TFF - The Brutalist
In 1947, Hungarian-Jewish László Tóth (Adrien Brody), separated from his wife (Felicity Jones) and niece, emigrates to Pennsylvania. A skilled architect, he catches the attention of industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren Sr. (Guy Pearce) and his son (Joe Alwyn), who task him with the construction of a gargantuan community centre honouring Harrison's late mother.
Brady Corbet (Vox Lux) directs this sprawling odyssey, in the vein of The Godfather and There Will Be Blood, about the falsehoods and failures that underpin the American project. Filmed in stunning VistaVision, accompanied by a rousing score, The Brutalist is reminiscent of grand Hollywood epics of a bygone era.
