A beautiful, poignant story about an unlikely and complicated friendship highlighted by captivating central performances. Ali (Adeel Akhtar), a likable, happy-go-lucky British Asian in Bradford manages the rental properties for his family business and comes from a well-off family. Ava (Claire Rushbrook) is a classroom assistant raising her children and grandchildren and possibly struggling to make ends meet with competing family and work demands. Ali & Ava meet by chance and an unlikely friendship forms. This is a heartfelt drama from director Clio Barnard (The Selfish Giant).
