Australia's largest celebration of speculative cinema, The Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival presents a line-up of local and international science-fiction and fantasy visions that reaffirms its status as a global genre film event.

In 2022, a selection of 10 feature films and 50 shorts will screen at EVENT Cinemas George Street from August 25-28, then embark on a 'Travelling Roadshow' national tour that will take in EVENT sites in Tuggerah, Shellharbour, Marion, Whitford, Palmerston and Brisbane City MC from September 2-3.

Amongst the titles having their Australian Premieres at this year's festival are Kirsten Carthew's POLARIS, a beautiful, brutal dystopian saga shot in the wilds of Canada, coming directly to the festival after having opened Montreal's Fantasia Fest; first-time director Paul Owen's thrilling mystery LANDLOCKED, a lo-fi, high-impact masterpiece that recalls cult favourite 'Donnie Darko'; the gaming-inspired SIGHT EXTENDED, from Daniel Lazo and Eran Mar-Raz; and, Patrick Donnelly's alien-abduction drama THE ALIEN REPORT, a dizzying journey inside UFO lore, shot using Go-Pro/iPhone tech.

Having its World Premiere at The Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival will be Nik Kacevski's MONGREL and Hannah Smith's THE EMPYREAN, just two of the incredible short films that come to our festival from our vast network of filmmakers; this year, we welcome films from France, Lithuania, Ireland, U.S.A., Estonia, Spain, Japan, China, Rwanda, U.K., Iran, India, Mexico and Portugal, in addition to our Australian contingent.

Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which we live, learn and work, and pays respect to Elders of all generations, and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival celebrates the history and contemporary creativity of the world’s oldest living culture.
