We are proud supporters of the Australian film industry.

We are actively involved in a number of local and national initiatives that both promote and foster talented Australian filmmakers. Below is just a touch of the initiatives we support.

Australian Feature Film Working Group
Founding member and venue partner
The Australian Feature Film Working Group is a group of industry representatives from the production, exhibition, and distribution sectors together with representatives of screen agencies and industry associations and guilds who are working toward a successful theatrical film industry. We champion change, share knowledge, promote alternatives, forge strategies, and encourage emerging film makers and industry professionals.

Monster Fest
Founded in 2011 by genre distribution specialists Monster Pictures, Monster Fest is a mix of premieres, international festival favourites, challenging new discoveries and curated repertory sidebars alongside industry-focused events such as panels and masterclasses with renowned international and local guests, and a special emphasis on supporting emerging Australian genre talent through the festival and beyond, and runs in all states across the country at an EVT location.

Sydney Film Festival
Event Cinemas have been a long-time partner of The Sydney Film Festival, and this year The Event Cinemas Rising Talent Award was announced and will recognise an emerging short filmmaker with a cash prize of $7,000. The award is open to film creatives, directors and screenwriters who have had no more than five short film credits.

Sydney Travelling Film Festival
The Travelling Film Festival (TFF), Australia’s longest-running travelling film festival, showcases Australian and international features, documentaries, and short films in regional Australia. TFF currently tours to over 6 EVT locations annually, screening in the Northern Territory, Queensland, and New South Wales. The TFF creates a program specific to each location. Films are chosen in consultation with the cinema and/or local film society and where possible, are selected from the previous Sydney Film Festival program with an emphasis on diversity of style, mood and country of origin. The Festival screens over a full weekend; opening on a Friday night complete with an Opening Night function, and continues over Saturday and Sunday, screening a total of nine features and two Australian short films.

Australian Women’s Film Festival
Major partner
AWFF is a short film festival that aims to support encourage and celebrate female storytellers by giving them a platform to showcase their talent both in front and behind the camera. We want to put women front and centre in an industry that has traditionally been dominated by men.

Queer Screen Film Festival

Since 2013, Queer Screen Film Fest has become a major event that delivers the latest LGBTIQ+ movies to Sydney’s screens and Event Cinemas are a proud venue partner.

Come to your local cinema and see the great Australian content coming soon to the big screen.
