Two giants of cinema, Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson, team up to bring Hergé's comic book characters to life. They've chosen The Secret of the Unicorn as the first film in a proposed trilogy. Tintin (Jamie Bell) finds a clue to an ancient treasure that belonged to Captain Haddock's (Andy Serkis aka Gollum aka King Kong) ancestor Sir Francis Haddock. They set out to find it with a small team: protection from a jail escapee and Detective Thompson and Thomson (Simon Pegg and Nick Frost), as well as scientific advice from Professor Calculus.
Tintin uses 3D motion-capture to bring the actors to life. Weta Digital in Wellington will be working their magical computerised wonders. Says Jackson, "We're making them look photorealistic; the fibers of their clothing, the pores of their skin and each individual hair. They look exactly like real people – but real Herge people."
