On the occasion of Grandma Amandine’s birthday, her large family descends upon her summer house in Brittany for a weekend of low-key celebrations. Cousins, aunts and uncles traverse old feuds and remembered loves. The diversity of family life, replete with humour, pathos and intrigue, is observed by 11 year-old Albertine. Now an adult, she recalls this childhood vacation whilst travelling to Brittany with her own family for a holiday.

But Albertine’s greatest fear at the time was of the Skylab that was about to crash into the earth. According to the news it was to land in Brittany – where the family always gathered for Amandine’s birthday.

Visits to the beach, long lunches, political arguments, and wartime reminiscing – all these things and more make for a spirited gathering at Grandma Amandine’s in this gentle comedy.

This lively second movie by Julie Delpy (2 Days in Paris) is a mix of fun, good memories and family arguments.
